Individuals who wish to maintain some flexibility within their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab when they need treatment for drug or alcohol abuse. Outpatient rehab will allow for the treatment client to take part in treatment services without the commitment you might ordinarily have to consent to within an inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehab center. This doesn't often work in the treatment client's favor however, specifically those clients who need to address substantial drug abuse issues. So even though an outpatient rehab may seem like an expedient option, it isn't for everyone. This is often helpful for those who have just completed an even more complete inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or upkeep step, or for someone with just a short history of substance abuse which is usually a really small amount of clients. For someone with more severe addiction and dependency issues, inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers that provide rehabilitation over a long-term basis are going to be the more effective rehabilitation choice.
