Individuals who want to maintain some flexibility in their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab if they need treatment for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab enables the rehab client to participate in rehab services with the same commitment one would usually have to agree to within an inpatient or residential drug and alcohol treatment program. This doesn't always work in the rehab client's favor however, specifically those clients who need to resolve substantial drug abuse issues. So although an outpatient rehab might appear to be an opportune option, it isn't for everyone. Those that decide on an outpatient rehab will usually take part in meetings and be a part of therapy and rehab services on a part-time basis daily or several days per week. This is very helpful for those who have recently completed an even more thorough inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or maintenance step, and for someone with only a short history of substance abuse which is usually a really small percentage of clients. For someone with more severe addiction and dependency problems, inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehab centers that provide rehab on a long-term basis are going to be the more effective rehab alternative.
