LGBT represents lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are centers which address the unique needs of these clients. People who are LGBT can feel alone, misunderstood, and considered socially depraved. This can be a very difficult or painful existence, and leads many LGBT individuals to a lifestyle of drug use to numb this pain. Someone that is LGBT may not feel at ease in a conventional rehabilitation center amongst people who aren't experiencing the same challenges they are experiencing of their lives. A LGBT facility offers an environment which can be free from judgment, where LGBT clients can feel completely comfortable and safe revealing to their peers and rehab counselors issues which have to be resolved to enable them to get well. Rehab counselors within a LGBT rehab will help clients mend relationships with their family members, in the case their family disagree with their sexual preference as is usually the case. This situation is certainly a common trigger for abusing drugs, and it is a good example of an issue that would be resolved in rehab. LGBT clients often just want to be accepted within their lives, and treatment will help them accept themselves and create confidence to enable them to lead a wholesome life free from drugs and alcohol.
