Individuals who want to maintain a lot of flexibility within their lives can take advantage of an outpatient rehab should they need rehab for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab allows for the rehabilitation client to take part in rehab services without the commitment one would normally have to consent to within an inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehab center. This doesn't often work in the rehabilitation client's favor however, specifically those individuals who need to address significant substance abuse problems. So even though an outpatient rehab may seem like an expedient option, it isn't for everyone. People who do choose an outpatient rehab will generally take part in meetings and be a part of therapy and treatment services part-time on a daily basis or several days a week. This is helpful for those who have recently completed a far more comprehensive inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or maintenance step, or someone with just a brief history of drug use which is usually a very small percentage of clients. For an individual with more significant drug abuse and dependency problems, inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehabilitation facilities which provide treatment on a long-term basis are going to be the more effective rehabilitation choice.
