Being diagnosed with HIV/AIDS may trigger drug abuse, or dangerous sexual conduct as a result of drug use could have caused the individual to contract the sickness. People who have HIV/AIDS, either as a result of their drug abuse or as a pre-existing problem prior to their drug use issue, often require treatment services tailor-made in order to meet their specific demands and problems. Some challenges are physical in nature, because of the fact that drug users with HIV/AIDS hardly ever care for themselves and take the proper medications they need to maintain their own health. Consequently, these individuals arrive to rehabilitation in very poor physical shape and this will have to be handled as a priority while dealing with other important issues. In addition to the obvious requirement to provide medical solutions while in rehab, individuals with HIV/AIDS will also need to deal with more deeply rooted issues which brought about their drug or alcohol use. Very often, individuals have situations in their lives that are purely environmental which may have caused them to turn to drugs or alcohol, such as oppressive situations within their lives or negative relationships. These are the issues which treatment counselors will give attention to as part of HIV/AIDS rehabilitation services.
