Individuals who would like to maintain a lot of flexibility in their lives can take advantage of an outpatient rehab should they need rehab for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab will allow for the treatment client to participate in rehabilitation services without the commitment you might usually have to agree to in an inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility. This doesn't always work in the treatment client's favor however, specifically those clients who need to solve substantial substance abuse issues. So although an outpatient rehab may seem like an expedient option, it isn't for everyone. People that do choose an outpatient rehab will usually show up at meetings and take part in counseling and treatment services part-time on a daily basis or a few days per week. This is often helpful for those who have just completed a more complete inpatient or residential program as a good aftercare or upkeep step, and someone with just a brief history of drug use which is really a very small number of clients. For someone with more severe drug abuse and dependency issues, inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehab centers which provide rehabilitation over a long-term basis will be the more effective rehabilitation choice.
