LGBT means lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are programs which address the particular needs of these clients. Those who are LGBT can often feel alone, misunderstood, and seen as socially unwanted. This is often an extremely tough or painful way to live, and leads many LGBT individuals to a life of substance abuse to alleviate these feelings. Someone who is LGBT might not feel comfortable inside a conventional rehabilitation program amongst folks who aren't experiencing the same challenges they are experiencing in their lives. A LGBT program provides an environment which is free from judgment, where LGBT clients can feel completely comfortable and safe revealing to their peers and treatment counselors problems which must be handled in order to recover. Rehab counselors in a LGBT rehab will help clients repair relationships with their family, in the case their family disagree with their sexual preference as is often the case. This situation is an extremely common trigger for abusing drugs, and is also an illustration of something would be handled in treatment. LGBT clients often only want to be accepted in their lives, and rehab will help them accept themselves and produce confidence in order to lead a wholesome life free from alcohol and drugs.
