Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has proven very helpful in circumstances where conventional treatment facilities have fallen short, such as coping with situations within a women's life which are distinctive and distressing. Such concerns may have to do with sexual abuse, physical trauma, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and being a mother, and other significant issues that are specific to women. Research shows that women could also get involved in drug abuse more readily than men, and therefore are more predisposed to illness as a consequence of addiction issues than males as a result. Because of obligations in the home, women also tend to postpone looking for and receiving care for addiction, a situation which can lead to catastrophe. With this in mind, rehab services for women are created in order that a women's needs will be the focus and priority. Similar to coed rehabs, drug and alcohol rehab programs that provide treatment services to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a first step. Following this step, counselors help women concentrate on both common and gender specific problems which may have triggered their substance abuse. Women also benefit from the beneficial support from their female peers, and a few facilities that offer rehabilitation services to women provide client beds for their children.
