Offering gender-specific treatment services has shown to be worthwhile in situations where conventional rehab facilities have fallen short, such as dealing with situations in a women's life that are distinctive and traumatic. Such concerns may relate to sexual abuse, physical abuse, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and being a mother, or any other serious issues that are particular to women. Research has revealed that women also can become involved in abusing drugs more readily than men, and therefore are more vulnerable to illness as a result of drug abuse problems than males consequently. Because of obligations in the home, women also tend to put off looking for and undergoing treatment, a situation which can lead to disaster. That said, rehabilitation services for women are created so that a women's needs are the concentration and priority. Comparable to coed centers, drug rehab facilities which provide rehabilitation services to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a 1st step. After this step, counselors help women target both general and gender specific issues who have prompted their substance abuse. Women also benefit from the constructive support from other female peers, plus some programs which offer rehabilitation services to women also provide client beds for her young children.
