Dual diagnosis rehabs are programs which deliver rehab to deal with both mental health and addiction concerns concurrently. Dual diagnosis is a very common situation for individuals involved in substance abuse, as people with mental health problems often medicate themselves with alcohol and drugs to to feel some kind of temporary relief from their disorder. In a dual diagnosis rehab, treatment counselors will help people using a comprehensive treatment plan all targeted at restoring and stabilizing mental, physical and emotional health as well as dealing with alcohol and drug abuse problems. Offering a safe environment is key to ensure that dual diagnosis clients can feel relaxed and remain undistracted from circumstances which could compromise their program and progress. Treatment counselors will continue to work to recognize environmental factors in the client's life including negative people in their lives or any other things that have to be addressed in order for the person to stay mentally stable and abstinen t once they depart dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also reap the benefits of behavioral rehabilitation which helps them develop far better coping mechanisms so that they are able to better handle life circumstances more proficiently when they depart dual diagnosis rehab as opposed to turning to alcohol and drugs as an inferior answer.
