Offering gender-specific treatment services has shown to be very useful in situations where traditional rehabilitation settings have fallen short, for example coping with situations in a women's life which can be distinctive and distressing. Such concerns may relate to sexual abuse, physical trauma, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family and motherhood, or any other serious issues which are particular to women. Research shows that women may also become involved in abusing drugs more readily than men, and are more vulnerable to sickness because of addiction problems than males consequently. Because of obligations in their home, women also tend to put off trying to find and undergoing treatment, a situation which can lead to disaster. Being mindful of this, treatment services for women are created so that a women's needs are the concentration and priority. Much like coed programs, alcohol and drug treatment centers which provide treatment solutions to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a first step. Following this step, counselors help women give attention to both general and gender specific concerns who have induced their substance abuse. Women also enjoy the beneficial support from their female peers, and a few programs which provide rehabilitation services to women also provide client beds for her young children.
