Hearing impaired men and women tend to have a greater probability of drug use issues because of the impairment, and treatment services have to be at hand which cater to their circumstances. Those who are hearing impaired can seem to be isolated, lack motivation, and goalless because of the impairment. Some hearing impaired individuals then decide to self medicate with drugs or alcohol to numb this pain and have a temporary release from the emotional and psychological problems that accompany having this handicap in life. To start with, detecting an alcohol and drug abuse problem among the hearing impaired is usually a challenge, as these individuals may try and hide their problem as a result of social stigmas that come with drug abuse. Having said that, alcohol and drug rehabilitation counselors who offer treatment to hearing impaired individuals understand the challenges that these clients face. ASL rehab services are definitely a necessity, as are rehabilitation services which address the particular challenges that hearing impaired individuals encounter. Group therapy offers a forum for important peer interactions to ensure that rehabilitation clients can know that they are not alone, and that there's hope to handle their challenge with alcohol and drugs. Individual therapy services can be more tailor-made for each person to ensure their particular problems can be handled in rehabilitation.
