Offering gender-specific treatment services has shown to be worthwhile in situations where standard treatment settings have fallen short, like dealing with situations in the women's life that are unique and painful. Such concerns may pertain to sexual abuse, physical abuse, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family and being a mother, or any other serious issues that are particular to women. Research has shown that women may also become involved in substance abuse more easily than men, and therefore are more predisposed to illness because of addiction issues than males because of this. Because of duties in the home, women also tend to put off looking for and receiving care for addiction, a circumstance which can lead to disaster. With this in mind, treatment services for women are created to ensure that a women's needs will be the concentration and priority. Much like coed centers, alcohol and drug rehab centers which provide treatment solutions to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a starting point. After this step, counselors help women concentrate on both common and gender-specific problems which may have brought about their drug abuse. Women also benefit from the beneficial support from other female peers, and some centers which provide rehabilitation services to women also provide client beds for their kids.
