Individuals who want to maintain a certain amount of flexibility within their lives can take advantage of an outpatient rehab should they need rehab for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab enables the rehab client to participate in rehabilitation services without the commitment you might normally have to agree to within an inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation center. This doesn't always work in the rehab client's favor however, particularly for those clients who need to address significant substance abuse problems. So even though an outpatient rehab might appear to be a convenient option, it isn't for everybody. Those who choose an outpatient rehab will generally attend meetings and take part in therapy and treatment services on a part-time basis daily or several days a week. This is helpful for many who have just completed a far more complete inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or upkeep step, and for someone with only a short history of drug abuse which is really a very small percentage of clients. For someone with more significant addiction and dependency problems, inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs which offer treatment over a long-term basis are going to be the more beneficial rehabilitation alternative.
