Offering gender-specific rehab services has shown to be very helpful in circumstances where standard treatment settings have fallen short, including coping with situations in the women's life which can be unique and traumatic. Such issues may relate to sexual abuse, physical abuse, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family and being a mother, or any other really serious issues that are particular to women. Studies show that women can also become involved in drug use more easily than men, and therefore are more predisposed to sickness because of dependency problems than males as a result. Because of obligations in the home, women also tend to postpone searching for and undergoing treatment, a situation which can be a catalyst for catastrophe. That said, rehabilitation services for women are created to ensure that a women's needs would be the focus and priority. Much like coed facilities, alcohol and drug rehabilitation facilities which provide rehabilitation solutions to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a starting point. Following this step, counselors help women concentrate on both basic and gender-specific issues who have triggered their drug or alcohol use. Women also utilize the positive support from their female peers, and a few programs which offer treatment services to women provide client beds for their children.
