Individuals who wish to maintain a certain amount of flexibility in their lives can take advantage of an outpatient rehab when they need treatment for drug or alcohol abuse. Outpatient rehab allows for the treatment client to take part in rehabilitation services without the commitment one would usually have to agree to in an inpatient or residential alcohol and drug treatment program. This doesn't always work in the rehab client's favor however, particularly for those clients who need to address significant substance abuse problems. So while an outpatient rehab might appear to be a convenient option, it isn't for everyone. Those that do choose an outpatient rehab will typically take part in meetings and be a part of therapy and rehab services part-time each day or several days each week. This is very helpful for many who have recently completed a more extensive inpatient or residential program as a good aftercare or upkeep step, or someone with just a short history of drug use which is usually a really small number of clients. For somebody with more severe drug abuse and dependency problems, inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehab facilities that provide rehabilitation on a long-term basis will be the more beneficial rehab option.
