Individuals who want to maintain a lot of flexibility in their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab should they need treatment for drug or alcohol abuse. Outpatient rehab allows for the rehabilitation client to take part in rehabilitation services with the same commitment one would normally have to agree to in an inpatient or residential drug rehabilitation program. This doesn't often work in the treatment client's favor however, particularly for those clients who need to address substantial substance abuse issues. So even though an outpatient rehab might appear to be an expedient option, it isn't for everyone. People who do decide on an outpatient rehab will usually take part in meetings and be a part of counseling and rehabilitation services part-time daily or a few days weekly. This can be very helpful for those who have just completed an even more thorough inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or maintenance step, and for someone with just a short history of substance abuse which is really a very small amount of clients. For somebody with more serious addiction and dependency problems, inpatient or residential drug treatment programs which provide treatment on a long-term basis are going to be the more effective rehab option.
