Offering gender-specific rehab services has proven worthwhile in circumstances where standard rehabilitation settings have not meet expectations, including dealing with situations inside a women's life which can be distinctive and distressing. Such troubles may have to do with sexual abuse, physical trauma, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and motherhood, or other serious issues which are specific to women. Research shows that women could also become involved in abusing drugs more readily than men, and are more vulnerable to sickness as a result of drug abuse problems than males consequently. Because of obligations in their home, women also tend to postpone looking for and receiving treatment, a situation which can be a catalyst for disaster. With this in mind, rehabilitation services for women are created so that a women's needs are the focus and priority. Similar to coed facilities, alcohol and drug rehabilitation facilities which provide rehabilitation services to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a starting point. Following this step, counselors help women concentrate on both general and gender-specific issues which may have induced their substance abuse. Women also may take advantage of the positive support from their female peers, and a few centers that offer treatment services to women offer client beds for their young children.
