Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has shown to be very useful in situations where conventional rehab settings have not meet expectations, for example dealing with situations within a women's life which are unique and painful. Such concerns may have to do with sexual abuse, physical trauma, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and being a mother, and other serious issues which are particular to women. Research has revealed that women could also become involved in drug use more easily than men, and so are more vulnerable to illness as a result of drug abuse issues than males as a result. Due to duties in their home, women also tend to postpone looking for and receiving treatment, a situation which can be a catalyst for catastrophe. That said, rehab services for women are created in order that a women's needs will be the concentration and priority. Similar to coed rehabs, alcohol and drug rehab centers that offer treatment services to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a first step. Following this step, counselors help women target both common and gender specific problems who have triggered their drug or alcohol use. Women also may take advantage of the beneficial support from other female peers, and some facilities that provide rehabilitation services to women offer client beds for her kids.
