A group home for a person who has tbeen involved with drug and alcohol abuse is a facility which provides continual support and help for those in recovery. A group home is usually for troubled adolescents, but there's also group homes for those with a mental health disorder or who are experiencing behavioral difficulties for example. Rather than sending people who are being affected by substance abuse or recovering from drug abuse to an orphanage, asylum and other similar place, a group home may help offer an appropriate environment to help individuals maintain stability in their lives and have counsel and assistance within reach around the clock. Residents inside a group home may be getting involved in rehabilitation services during residence, or may be taking actions to get their life set up outside of the group home to be able to at some point live on their own away from the group home. For example, a troubled youth who may have been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can work on getting their GED or acquire work. A group home is not necessarily a long-term or permanent option, but it's a viable short-term option for those who are trying to get their lives back together again.
