Many hearing impaired individuals then choose to self medicate with alcohol or drugs to numb this pain and experience a temporary escape from the emotional and psychological challenges that come with possessing this handicap in life. Firstly, detecting an alcohol and drug abuse problem among the hearing impaired is usually a challenge, as these individuals may make an attempt to hide their issue as a result of social stigmas attached to substance abuse. Having said that, alcohol and drug rehab counselors who provide rehab to hearing impaired individuals understand the challenges that these clients face. ASL rehabilitation services are definitely a necessity, as well as treatment services which address the particular challenges that hearing impaired individuals face.
