Individuals who want to maintain some flexibility within their lives can take advantage of an outpatient rehab should they need rehab for drug or alcohol abuse. Outpatient rehab will allow for the rehabilitation client to take part in rehabilitation services with the same commitment one would normally have to agree to in an inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehab facility. This doesn't often work in the rehabilitation client's favor however, specifically those individuals who need to solve significant drug abuse issues. So although an outpatient rehab may seem like a convenient possibility, it isn't for everybody. Those that do choose an outpatient rehab will generally show up at meetings and be a part of counseling and rehabilitation services on a part-time basis every day or several days weekly. This can be very helpful for individuals who have recently completed a far more extensive inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or maintenance step, or for someone with just a brief history of substance abuse which is really a really small percentage of clients. For someone with more serious addiction and dependency problems, inpatient or residential drug rehabilitation centers that provide rehab on a long-term basis will probably be the more advantageous rehabilitation option.
