Dual diagnosis rehabs are centers which provide rehabilitation to handle both mental health and addiction issues at the same time. Dual diagnosis is an extremely common situation for people involved with drug abuse, as people who have mental health problems often self medicate with alcohol and drugs to to feel some type of temporary relief from their disorder. In a dual diagnosis rehab, treatment counselors will help individuals through a detailed rehabilitation plan all targeted at restoring and replenishing mental, emotional and physical health as well as dealing with substance abuse issues. Providing a secure setting is essential to ensure dual diagnosis clients can feel at ease and remain undistracted from circumstances that could compromise their program and advancement. Rehab counselors will continue to work to identify environmental factors in the client's life including negative people in their lives or other things which have to be addressed in order for the individual to be mentally healthy and abstinen t once they depart dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also reap the benefits of behavioral rehab which helps them develop more efficient coping mechanisms so that they are able to better handle life circumstances more effectively after they depart dual diagnosis rehab instead of turning to drugs as an inferior answer.
