Individuals who wish to maintain a lot of flexibility in their lives can take advantage of an outpatient rehab whenever they need treatment for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab allows for the rehabilitation client to participate in treatment services without the commitment you might usually have to agree to within an inpatient or residential drug rehab facility. This doesn't always work in the rehabilitation client's favor however, particularly for those individuals who need to solve substantial substance abuse problems. So while an outpatient rehab might appear to be an expedient option, it isn't for everyone. Those who decide on an outpatient rehab will generally take part in meetings and take part in counseling and rehab services on a part-time basis each day or a few days per week. This is often helpful for individuals who have recently completed a more thorough inpatient or residential program as a good aftercare or maintenance step, and someone with just a brief history of substance abuse which is really a really small percentage of clients. For an individual with more severe addiction and dependency issues, inpatient or residential drug and alcohol treatment programs that provide rehab over a long-term basis will be the more advantageous rehab choice.
