A group home for someone who has been involved in alcohol and drug abuse is a facility which offers continual support and help for individuals in recovery. A group home is usually for troubled adolescents, but in addition there are group homes for people with a mental health disorder or who are encountering behavioral difficulties for example. Instead of sending those who are experiencing drug abusedrug use or recovering from drug abuse to an orphanage, asylum or another similar place, a group home might help provide an appropriate environment to help sustain stability within their lives and still have counsel and support at their fingertips around the clock. People who reside inside a group home may be involved in treatment services during residence, or could be taking steps to get their life setup outside of the group home in order to at some point live on their own not in the group home. For example, a troubled youth who's been in recovery or has recovered from drug abusedrug use can work on getting their GED or obtain work. A group home is certainly not a long-term or permanent option, but it is a viable short-term option for individuals who are trying to get their lives back together again.
