LGBT stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are programs which address the unique needs of these clients. Individuals who are LGBT can often feel alone, misunderstood, and viewed as socially depraved. This is often a quite challenging or painful way to live, and leads many LGBT individuals to a life of drug use to numb these feelings. Someone that is LGBT may not feel relaxed in a traditional rehab facility amongst people who aren't experiencing the same problems they may be experiencing within their lives. A LGBT center provides an environment that is free from judgment, where LGBT clients can feel completely safe and comfortable revealing to their peers and rehab counselors problems which must be resolved in order to recover. Rehabilitation counselors in the LGBT rehab will help clients repair relationships with their family members, in the case their loved ones disagree with their sexual preference as is often the case. This situation is an extremely frequent trigger for drug use, which is an example of an issue that can be handled in rehab. LGBT clients often only want to be accepted in their lives, and rehabilitation will help them accept themselves and produce confidence so that they can lead a wholesome life free from drugs and alcohol.
