Individuals who wish to maintain some flexibility in their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab if they need treatment for drug or alcohol abuse. Outpatient rehab allows for the rehabilitation client to participate in rehab services without the commitment one would normally have to consent to in an inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehabilitation program. This doesn't always work in the rehab client's favor however, particularly for those individuals who need to solve substantial substance abuse issues. So even though an outpatient rehab might appear to be an expedient option, it isn't for everybody. People who decide on an outpatient rehab will usually show up at meetings and take part in therapy and treatment services part-time every day or a few days each week. This is very helpful for individuals who have just completed a much more thorough inpatient or residential program as a good aftercare or maintenance step, or someone with just a brief history of drug use which is usually a very small amount of clients. For somebody with more significant drug abuse and dependency problems, inpatient or residential drug treatment programs that provide rehab over a long-term basis will be the more effective rehab choice.
