Individuals who wish to maintain some flexibility in their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab if they need rehabilitation for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab makes it possible for the rehab client to participate in rehab services without the commitment one would usually have to agree to in an inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehab program. This doesn't always work in the rehabilitation client's favor however, particularly for those individuals who need to address significant drug abuse problems. So while an outpatient rehab may seem like an expedient possibility, it isn't for everyone. Those who choose an outpatient rehab will generally show up at meetings and be a part of counseling and rehabilitation services on a part-time basis daily or a few days each week. This is helpful for many who have recently completed a more extensive inpatient or residential program as a good aftercare or upkeep step, and for someone with just a brief history of drug use which is usually a very small number of clients. For an individual with more serious addiction and dependency issues, inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehab centers which offer rehabilitation on a long-term basis will be the more effective rehab alternative.
