Offering gender-specific treatment services has shown to be worthwhile in situations where traditional rehabilitation facilities have fallen short, including coping with situations within a women's life that happen to be distinctive and painful. Such concerns may pertain to sexual abuse, physical abuse, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family and being a mother, or other significant issues which can be particular to women. Research has shown that women may also get involved in drug abuse more readily than men, and so are more vulnerable to sickness as a result of dependency issues than males consequently. Because of obligations in their home, women also tend to postpone looking for and receiving care for addiction, a situation which can be a catalyst for disaster. That said, rehab services for women are created so that a women's needs will be the concentration and priority. Similar to coed programs, alcohol and drug rehab programs which provide rehabilitation services to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a 1st step. Following this step, counselors help women target both general and gender-specific problems which may have induced their drug abuse. Women also utilize the beneficial support from their female peers, and several centers which provide rehab services to women also provide client beds for their children.
