LGBT is short for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are centers which address the unique needs of these clients. Individuals who are LGBT can often feel alone, not understood, and viewed as socially depraved. This is often an extremely tough or painful way to live, and leads many LGBT individuals to a life of substance abuse to numb these feelings. Somebody who is LGBT might not feel at ease within a traditional rehabilitation center amongst people who aren't experiencing the same challenges they are experiencing of their lives. A LGBT program provides an environment that is free from judgment, where LGBT clients can feel completely comfortable and safe revealing to their peers and treatment counselors problems which should be handled in order to get better. Rehab counselors within a LGBT rehab will help clients fix relationships with their family, in the event their family disagree with their sexual preference as is often the case. This situation is certainly a frequent trigger for drug abuse, which is a good example of an issue that would be handled in rehab. LGBT clients often only want to be accepted in their lives, and rehabilitation will help them accept themselves and build confidence to enable them to lead a healthy life without any drugs and alcohol.
