LGBT is short for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are centers which address the unique needs of these clients. Individuals who are LGBT can feel alone, misunderstood, and considered socially unwanted. This may be a very hard or painful way to live, and leads many LGBT individuals to a lifestyle of substance abuse to alleviate these feelings. Someone that is LGBT might not feel relaxed within a traditional treatment center amongst individuals who aren't experiencing the same challenges they are experiencing of their lives. A LGBT program provides an environment that's free of judgment, where LGBT clients can feel totally safe and comfortable revealing to their peers and rehab counselors issues which must be handled in order to get better. Rehabilitation counselors in the LGBT rehab will help clients mend relationships with their loved ones, in case their family disagree with their sexual preference as is often the case. This situation is an extremely common trigger for abusing drugs, and is also a good example of an issue that would be handled in rehabilitation. LGBT clients often only want to be accepted in their lives, and treatment will help them accept themselves and build confidence to enable them to lead a healthy life free from alcohol and drugs.
