Being diagnosed with HIV/AIDS may trigger drug or alcohol use, or dangerous sexual behavior due to drug abuse might have caused the person to contract the disease. Individuals who have HIV/AIDS, either because of their substance abuse or as a pre-existing problem before their drug use problem, often require treatment services tailor-made to meet their specific demands and problems. Some of these challenges are physical in nature, because of the fact that substance abusers with HIV/AIDS almost never take care of themselves and take the proper medications they need to maintain their own health. Consequently, these individuals arrive to rehab in very poor physical shape and this will have to be handled as a priority while also dealing with other critical concerns. Apart from the obvious necessity to supply medical solutions while in rehab, people with HIV/AIDS must also tackle deeper problems which prompted their alcohol or drug use. Often, people have circumstances in their lives which are purely environmental which may have caused them to use drugs or alcohol, including oppressive conditions within their lives or negative relationships. These are the concerns which rehab counselors will concentrate on as part of HIV/AIDS rehabilitation services.
