Individuals who want to maintain a certain amount of flexibility within their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab when they need treatment for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab allows for the treatment client to participate in treatment services with the same commitment one would usually have to consent to in an inpatient or residential drug rehab program. This doesn't always work in the treatment client's favor however, particularly for those individuals who need to address substantial substance abuse problems. So while an outpatient rehab may seem like an opportune option, it isn't for everybody. Those who do choose an outpatient rehab will usually take part in meetings and be a part of counseling and treatment services part-time daily or several days each week. This is very helpful for many who have just completed a far more complete inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or upkeep step, or someone with only a short history of drug use which is usually a very small number of clients. For somebody with more significant drug abuse and dependency issues, inpatient or residential alcohol and drug treatment programs which provide rehabilitation over a long-term basis will be the more beneficial treatment option.
