Individuals who would like to maintain some flexibility in their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab when they need rehabilitation for drug or alcohol abuse. Outpatient rehab allows for the rehab client to take part in treatment services without the commitment you might normally have to agree to within an inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehab facility. This doesn't always work in the treatment client's favor however, specifically those clients who need to address significant substance abuse issues. So even though an outpatient rehab might appear to be an expedient possibility, it isn't for everyone. Those that decide on an outpatient rehab will generally show up at meetings and be a part of counseling and rehabilitation services on a part-time basis daily or several days per week. This can be very helpful for those who have just completed a more thorough inpatient or residential program as a good aftercare or upkeep step, or for someone with just a short history of drug abuse which is usually a very small percentage of clients. For someone with more severe addiction and dependency problems, inpatient or residential alcohol and drug treatment centers that provide rehabilitation on a long-term basis are going to be the more effective treatment alternative.
