Individuals who wish to maintain a certain amount of flexibility in their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab if they need treatment for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab makes it possible for the rehabilitation client to participate in treatment services with the same commitment one would ordinarily have to consent to within an inpatient or residential drug rehab center. This doesn't always work in the rehabilitation client's favor however, particularly for those clients who need to resolve significant drug abuse problems. So although an outpatient rehab may seem like a convenient possibility, it isn't for everybody. Those who choose an outpatient rehab will generally take part in meetings and be a part of therapy and treatment services on a part-time basis each day or several days per week. This can be very helpful for those who have just completed a more thorough inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or maintenance step, and someone with only a brief history of substance abuse which is usually a really small number of clients. For someone with more significant addiction and dependency issues, inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehabilitation centers that provide rehabilitation over a long-term basis will probably be the more effective rehab choice.
