Offering gender-specific rehab services has shown to be very helpful in circumstances where conventional treatment settings have fallen short, such as dealing with situations inside a women's life that are distinctive and painful. Such difficulties may pertain to sexual abuse, physical abuse, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family and being a mother, or another serious issues which can be specific to women. Research shows that women may also become involved in drug use more easily than men, and so are more vulnerable to illness as a consequence of dependency problems than males because of this. Because of duties in their home, women also tend to postpone looking for and receiving treatment, a circumstance which can be a catalyst for disaster. Being mindful of this, treatment services for women are designed so that a women's needs will be the concentration and priority. Similar to coed rehabs, alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs that provide rehab services to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a 1st step. After this step, counselors help women concentrate on both basic and gender-specific problems which may have brought on their drug abuse. Women also may take advantage of the beneficial support from other female peers, and a few facilities that offer treatment services to women provide client beds for their young children.
