Individuals who want to maintain some flexibility in their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab should they need rehab for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab allows for the rehab client to participate in rehab services with the same commitment you might ordinarily have to consent to in an inpatient or residential drug treatment center. This doesn't often work in the treatment client's favor however, particularly for those clients who need to resolve substantial substance abuse problems. So even though an outpatient rehab might appear to be an expedient option, it isn't for everyone. Those who do decide on an outpatient rehab will usually attend meetings and take part in counseling and rehab services part-time each day or several days a week. This is often helpful for those who have just completed a far more thorough inpatient or residential program as a good aftercare or maintenance step, and someone with only a short history of substance abuse which is really a very small amount of clients. For a person with more significant drug abuse and dependency problems, inpatient or residential drug treatment facilities that provide rehab over a long-term basis are going to be the more effective treatment choice.
