Hearing impaired individuals tend to have a greater probability of drug abuse issues because of their impairment, and rehabilitation services must be available which cater to their circumstances. To begin with, detecting a drug and alcohol abuse problem among the hearing impaired is often a challenge, since these individuals may attempt to hide their issue because of social stigmas attached to drug abuse. Nonetheless, drug treatment counselors who offer treatment to hearing impaired individuals understand the challenges that these clients face. ASL treatment services are of course a must, as are rehabilitation services which address the unique challenges that hearing impaired individuals face. Group therapy offers a forum for important peer support in order that rehab clients can know that they are not alone, and that there is hope to handle their problem with drugs and alcohol.
