Individuals who would like to maintain a lot of flexibility within their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab when they need treatment for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab will allow for the rehabilitation client to participate in rehabilitation services without the commitment one would usually have to consent to within an inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehab facility. This doesn't often work in the rehab client's favor however, specifically those clients who need to resolve significant drug abuse problems. So although an outpatient rehab might appear to be an opportune option, it isn't for everyone. Those that do decide on an outpatient rehab will typically show up at meetings and be a part of therapy and rehab services on a part-time basis daily or a few days per week. This is very helpful for many who have just completed a more thorough inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or maintenance step, or for someone with just a brief history of drug abuse which is really a really small number of clients. For an individual with more serious drug abuse and dependency problems, inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers that provide rehabilitation on a long-term basis will probably be the more advantageous treatment choice.
