Individuals who wish to maintain a lot of flexibility within their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab should they need rehab for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab will allow for the rehab client to participate in rehab services with the same commitment one would usually have to agree to in an inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehab facility. This doesn't often work in the treatment client's favor however, specifically those individuals who need to resolve substantial substance abuse problems. So although an outpatient rehab may seem like an expedient option, it isn't for everyone. Those who choose an outpatient rehab will usually show up at meetings and be a part of counseling and treatment services part-time on a daily basis or a few days per week. This is very helpful for those who have just completed a far more extensive inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or maintenance step, and someone with only a short history of drug abuse which is usually a really small number of clients. For a person with more serious addiction and dependency issues, inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs that provide rehabilitation on a long-term basis will be the more beneficial rehab alternative.
