Offering gender-specific treatment services has shown to be worthwhile in circumstances where conventional treatment settings have fallen short, like coping with situations in a women's life that are unique and traumatic. Such difficulties may pertain to sexual abuse, physical abuse, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family and motherhood, or other significant issues which are specific to women. Research shows that women could also get involved in drug abuse more easily than men, and therefore are more predisposed to illness as a result of addiction problems than males because of this. Because of obligations in their home, women also tend to put off searching for and receiving care for addiction, a circumstance which can lead to catastrophe. That said, rehabilitation services for women are designed in order that a women's needs will be the focus and priority. Much like coed rehabs, alcohol and drug treatment programs that provide treatment services to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a first step. Following this step, counselors help women focus on both standard and gender specific issues who have prompted their substance abuse. Women also utilize the positive support from other female peers, plus some centers which provide rehab services to women offer client beds for her kids.
