Hearing impaired individuals generally have a heightened likelihood of drug abuse issues due to their impairment, and treatment services must be available to them which serves their circumstances. People who are hearing impaired can seem to be isolated, unmotivated, and be without goals because of the impairment. Many hearing impaired individuals then opt to self medicate with alcohol or drugs to numb this pain and experience a temporary escape from the psychological and emotional problems that come with having this handicap in life.
