A group home for anyone who has tbeen involved with alcohol and drug abuse is a facility which offers continual support and assistance for individuals in recovery. A group home is usually for troubled youth, but there's also group homes for people with a mental health problem or who are encountering behavioral difficulties for example. Rather than sending those who are struggling with substance abuse or recovering from substance abuse to an orphanage, asylum or other similar facility, a group home can help provide an appropriate environment to help sustain stability in their lives and have counsel and support at their fingertips around the clock. Residents inside a group home could be getting involved in rehabilitation services while in residence, or might be taking steps to get their life setup outside of the group home so that they can at some time live independently away from the group home. For example, a troubled youth that has been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can work on getting their GED or acquire employment. A group home is not really a long-term or permanent option, but it is a sensible short term option for many who want to get their lives back together.
