Offering gender-specific treatment services has proven beneficial in circumstances where standard rehabilitation settings have fallen short, including dealing with situations in a women's life which can be distinctive and distressing. Such issues may relate to sexual abuse, physical trauma, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family and being a mother, or any other serious issues that are specific to women. Research has shown that women can also get involved in abusing drugs more easily than men, and so are more vulnerable to illness due to drug abuse problems than males as a result. Because of obligations in their home, women also tend to put off trying to find and undergoing treatment, a situation which can be a catalyst for catastrophe. With this in mind, rehabilitation services for women are created so that a women's needs are the focus and priority. Similar to coed rehabs, alcohol and drug rehabilitation facilities which offer treatment solutions to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a starting point. After this step, counselors help women give attention to both general and gender-specific concerns who have triggered their substance abuse. Women also benefit from the beneficial support from their female peers, plus some programs that offer treatment services to women also provide client beds for their children.
