Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has shown to be very useful in circumstances where traditional treatment settings have fallen short, including dealing with situations in a women's life that happen to be unique and traumatic. Such concerns may pertain to sexual abuse, physical abuse, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family and being a mother, and other serious issues that are specific to women. Research has shown that women may also become involved in substance abuse more easily than men, and therefore are more predisposed to sickness as a consequence of addiction problems than males as a result. Following this step, counselors help women concentrate on both general and gender-specific concerns who have prompted their drug or alcohol use. Women also may take advantage of the positive support from other female peers, plus some facilities which provide rehabilitation services to women provide client beds for her young children.
