Individuals who would like to maintain a certain amount of flexibility within their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab when they need rehabilitation for drug or alcohol abuse. Outpatient rehab makes it possible for the rehabilitation client to take part in treatment services with the same commitment one would usually have to agree to in an inpatient or residential drug rehab facility. This doesn't always work in the rehabilitation client's favor however, specifically those clients who need to address significant substance abuse issues. So while an outpatient rehab may seem like an expedient option, it isn't for everybody. People who do choose an outpatient rehab will typically take part in meetings and be a part of counseling and rehab services on a part-time basis each day or a few days weekly. This is very helpful for individuals who have just completed a far more complete inpatient or residential program as a good aftercare or maintenance step, or for someone with only a brief history of substance abuse which is really a very small amount of clients. For someone with more severe drug abuse and dependency problems, inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehab programs which provide treatment over a long-term basis are going to be the more effective treatment choice.
