Dual diagnosis rehabs are programs which deliver treatment to address both addiction and mental health concerns simultaneously. Dual diagnosis is a very common situation for those involved in substance abuse, as people who have mental health disorders frequently medicate themselves with alcohol and drugs to to feel some type of short-term relief from their disorder. In a dual diagnosis rehab, rehabilitation counselors will help men and women through a thorough treatment plan all targeted at restoring and stabilizing mental, physical and emotional health whilst dealing with alcohol and drug abuse issues. Providing a safe and secure environment is key so that dual diagnosis clients can be relaxed and remain undistracted from circumstances that could compromise their program and advancement. Rehab counselors will work to recognize environmental factors in the client's life including negative relationships or other things which must be addressed in order for the person to remain mentally healthy and sober t when they depart dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also benefit from behavioral rehabilitation which will help them develop more effective coping mechanisms so that they are able to better deal with life circumstances better once they depart dual diagnosis rehab instead of returning to drugs as a possible solution.
