Individuals who want to maintain a lot of flexibility in their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab whenever they need rehab for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab makes it possible for the rehab client to take part in rehabilitation services with the same commitment one would ordinarily have to agree to in an inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehabilitation program. This doesn't often work in the treatment client's favor however, specifically those individuals who need to resolve significant drug abuse issues. So although an outpatient rehab might appear to be an expedient option, it isn't for everybody. Those that do choose an outpatient rehab will usually attend meetings and take part in counseling and rehabilitation services part-time daily or a few days each week. This is helpful for individuals who have recently completed a more thorough inpatient or residential program as a good aftercare or upkeep step, and for someone with just a brief history of substance abuse which is really a really small percentage of clients. For an individual with more severe drug abuse and dependency problems, inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs which provide treatment over a long-term basis will probably be the more advantageous rehab option.
