Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has shown to be very helpful in circumstances where traditional rehabilitation settings have fallen short, for example dealing with situations inside a women's life that are distinctive and distressing. Such concerns may have to do with sexual abuse, physical trauma, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family and motherhood, or another serious issues that are specific to women. Research has shown that women also can become involved in drug use more readily than men, and so are more predisposed to sickness because of addiction issues than males as a result. Because of obligations in the home, women also tend to postpone searching for and receiving care for addiction, a situation which can be a catalyst for catastrophe. With this in mind, rehab services for women are designed in order that a women's needs would be the focus and priority. Much like coed programs, alcohol and drug treatment centers that provide rehab solutions to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a starting point. After this step, counselors help women concentrate on both basic and gender-specific concerns which may have prompted their substance abuse. Women also utilize the constructive support from their female peers, plus some centers that provide rehab services to women offer client beds for her young children.
