A group home for a person who has been involved in alcohol and drug abuse is a facility which provides continual support and help for people in recovery. A group home is usually for troubled adolescents, but there's also group homes for people with a mental health disorder or who are encountering behavioral difficulties for example. Instead of sending people who are struggling with substance abuse or recovering from substance abuse to an orphanage, asylum and other similar facility, a group home can help provide an acceptable environment to help maintain stability in their lives and have counsel and support at their fingertips around the clock. People who reside in a group home may be involved in rehabilitation services during residence, or could be taking steps to get their life setup outside of the group home to be able to at one point live on their own not in the group home. For example, a troubled youth who may have been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can work on getting their GED or obtain work. A group home is certainly not a long-term or permanent answer, however it is a practical temporary option for those who are attempting to get their lives back together again.
